The new .au domains are available for pre-order!
If you have a .com.au or a .net.au domain, you can pre-order your new .au domain before they are officially launched on 24 March 2022. 180 days later (around the 24th of June), your .au domain will be up for grabs by anyone!
Here’s what you need to know to secure your domain.
Want to pre-order?
Before pre-ordering your new .au domain, check your priority status eligibility by visiting the Domain Australia Limited website and entering your current domain name. The new .au domain registration must be set to be the same as your current .com.au or .net.au domain to qualify for pre-order eligibility.
If you’d like to pre-order, then contact us at support@ihelpit.com.au and ask us to attempt to reserve your .au domain. It’s just $50/year + GST, and includes DNS management.
Pre-order is not a guarantee! Please note that, while we will make every attempt to pre-order your new .au domain, the success is not guaranteed and any purchase attempt is not refundable.
Having said that, we have already pre-ordered our ihelpit.au domain, so we’re pretty confident it will be fine.
Happy to wait?
Existing .com.au and .net.au domain holders will have priority to purchase the new .au domains under the normal domain purchase rules for the first 180 days after being released (roughly until the 24th of June 2022). After that, it’s a free-for-all.
Act to ensure your domain
Regardless of whether you’d like to dive in and pre-order, or are happy to wait until the 24th of March, you’ll need to act to secure your .au domain and prevent cyber-squatters from stealing it from you.
When does .au go live?
The new .au domains will go live and be able to be used as at 24 March 2022.
After the domain purchase has been finalised, we can add your new domain to your Microsoft Exchange email account, so that you can start to send and receive email using the new domain. Your existing domain will still work, so you won’t miss any emails.
Our web dev team can also migrate your website to use your new .au domain, and redirect your existing domain to the new web site, so you won’t miss any customer enquiries.
